ISRAEL-PALESTINE INFORMATION WAR IN GAZA STRIP CONFLICT

Conflict in Gaza strip during 22 days (27 December 2008-18 January 2009) invite wide attention. Around 1.300 poeple of Palestine dan 14 Israel people were killed during the conflict. War in Gaza Strip that involve Israel armforces and Hamas is a part of long conflict between in the area. <br /> <br /> <br /> Not only using weapon and international lobbyest power, but also both side used information as an effort to gain their objective. Israel and Hamas believed that dissemination of information within public have significant influent in achieving the objective. Through media operation, both Hamas and Israel want to get legitimation from the world. <br /> <br /> <br /> This thesis describe pattern of media operation or information war during the conflict. By discourse analysis method of research, information within Gaza Strip conflict classified into four part : reason of conflict, objective of conflict, victim, dan casefire issue. Source of information refer to leader of both side who have important rule in decision making. <br /> <br /> <br /> Analysis of discource shows that Israel and Hamas have similarity and differences in their media operation strategy. Both of Hamas and Israel place theirself as vinctim who has right to make defensive action through the conflict. Israel tried to convince the world that victims of the conflict are Hamas activists not civilian. Opposite to Israel, Hamas showed to public that Israel made huge collateral damage. Most of the victims are non-combatant including women and innocent kids. Both of them have differences in deal with casefire issue. Israel always hardly reject idea of casefire from others and Hamas look more accomodative to the issue. <br /> <br /> <br /> Hamas and Israel hope very much their message was strongly accepted by public during Gaza Strip conflict occure. They hope public judged their message as a thruth and message from enemy as a wrong information. <br /> <br /> <br /> Both of them adopted some pattern in developing information such as, disinformation, reality reduction, media ideologization, dan artificial massage dissemination. They also set up strong access to media by theirown way. Israel involve physical action to support media operation. Hamas have not enough power and technology to support it’s media operation by physical action.
