SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ION-IMPRINTED POLY(ANILINE-FORMALDEHYDE) FOR PRECONCENTRATION CU(II)

This study aims to synthesize ion imprinted polymers (IIPs) for metal ion Cu (II). IIPs is porous polymer that can bind and release an ion. IIPs has a good selectivity for certain ions into the template. IIPs is functional material for the preconcentration of trace analysis with samples having compl...

IIPs is porous polymer that can bind and release an ion. IIPs has a good selectivity for certain ions into the template. IIPs is functional material for the preconcentration of trace analysis with samples having complex matrices. Polymers synthesized from monomer aniline and formaldehyde, additional aniline as extended chain. The methods will be carried out in 4 steps, synthesize of poly (aniline - formaldehyde), synthesize of ion - imprinted poly (aniline - formaldehyde) or IIPAF, release of ions Cu (II) from IIPAF to produce Cu – IPAF and characterization. Synthesize of poly (aniline - formaldehyde) made through the condensation reaction for 2 hours at temperature of 1000 C with 37 % HCl catalyst. Synthesize of ion - imprinted poly (aniline - formaldehyde) conducted through a radical reaction with FeSO4 catalyst and initiator of 30 % H2O2. Non - imprinted poly (aniline - formaldehyde) synthesized in the same way without addition of ions Cu (II). Metal ions Cu (II) on IIPAF can be released with 0.5 M HNO3 produces Cu - IPAF. Characterization with FTIR results showed some significant peaks which proves that the polymer has been formed . Characterization of retention properties of Cu (II) includes the determination of pH, contact time, and adsorption capacity. Determination of selectivity done by contacting the Cu-IPAF with ion mixed solution of Cu (II), Cd (II), Pb (II) and Zn (II). Cu-IPAF selective for Cu(II) with ratio of the analyte and foreign ion is 2:1. Cu-IPAF has adsorption capacity 13,87 mg / g at pH 5 with a contact time of 75 minutes. Percent recovery of the adsorption - desorption process is 97,72 %. text
