The aims of this research are to determine the geological setting of Siung Malopot at Barito Basin based on field data on the map with the scale of 1:12500 with total area of 7.5 x 6 km (45 km2); also to determine paleoecology and paleoclimatology of research area using palinology analysis; and to determine the coal deposit resources based on measured and inferred. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The geomorphology of the research area was divided into four units: a Fault Ridge Unit, a Vulcanic Ridge Unit, a Denudational Plane Fold Unit, and an Aluvial Plane Unit. Meanwhile, the stratigraphy of the research area can be divided into three unofficial units, mentioned in chronological order from older to younger are: Late Cretaceous Andesite Unit, Late Cretaceous Granodiorite Unit, and Middle to Late Miocene Sandstone – Claystone Unit. The Aluvial deposit which deposited during the Holocene to recent lays unconformably above all the units. The geological structures such as folds, strike-slip and thrust faults were discovered in this area. Those were formed due to the strain regime during Early Tersier and compression regime during Early Miocene to Plio-Plistocene. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> A palinology analysis was conducted on location of KD 1-5. The result shows that Sandstone-Limestone Unit was aged P14-P17 (Late Eocene). The results also shows that this unit was deposited around backmangrove vegetation, with the the changes of paleoecology condition that fluctuates with humidity from oldest to youngest deposit based on the percentage of AP/NAP and Spore/Polen. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The Sandstone-Claystone Unit is the coal containing unit. The distribution of the coal controlled by orientation of layers. Ten coal seams were found in Sandstone-Claystone Unit (0,18-1,8 m thick). By using the USGS Circular Method, the resource amount of the coal deposit was calculated, with the result of measured coal resource as much as 731.891.688, 4 tones and indicated resource as much as 721.119.328,7 tones. Based on ASTM classification, the seams are considered as High Volatile A, High Volatile B, High Volatile C dan Sub-Bituminus B text |
