Description
Summary:Merbah field is located at Kaya Block, South Sumatra Basin and has been explored since 1948. The main object of this research was focussed in the reservoir interval of Upper Talang Akar Formation which is one of the reservoir target in South Sumatra Basin. In the other hand, well log data, core, and cutting description in Merbah Field show the hydrocarbon potential in Upper Talang Akar Formation.

The aims of this research are to understand the geological issue of Merbah Field and also to define the reservoir characterization such as depositional facies, reservoir properties and distribution, and also hydrocarbon prospect in A and B Reservoir interval of Upper Talang Akar Formation. The data which been used in this research consists of third dimension seismic cube, core and cutting description, and also well log data (Caliper, SP, GR, NPHI, Resistivity, RHOB, and PEF). The methods which have been used to define the reservoir characterization are electrofacies, sequence stratigraphy, seismic stratigraphy, formation evaluation and static reservoir modelling.

The sequence stratigraphy analysis with electrofacies method approachment which is refered to core description in Well Merbah-1 shows that Reservoir A consists of distributary channel and interdistributary plain facies, whereas Reservoir B consists of distributary mouthbar and prodelta shale facies. Based on reservoir property analysis, the best reservoir quality is came from distributary channel facies from Reservoir A and followed by distributary mouthbar facies from Reservoir B.

Reservoir modelling result based on geostatistical shows that the depositional pattern of distributary channel facies is trending northwest-southeast, whereas the distirbutary mouthbar trending northeast-southwest. Hydrocarbon volumetric calculation shows that the amount of hydrocarbon volumetric in Reservoir A is 3272,6 x 103 STB and Reservoir B is 5312 x 103 STB. Those informations can be used as a reference for oil field development plan for reservoir interval in Upper Talang Akar Formation at Merbah Field.
