| Summary: | Sukakarya Village, located in the upstream watershed of Cimanuk has becomes an important part of improvement attempts and sanitation return of Cimanuk watershed. The villagers mostly living as farmers, cultivating Akar Wangi commodities as commodities of high economic value hereditary. Commodity of this type is suspected to be the cause of erosion, landslides and sedimentation through the ways of planting and harvesting that are not in accordance with the principles of conservation. The government, through various programs and activities, has been trying to conserve the physically and vegetative. The conservation efforts however, do not run in accordance with the expectations. Community participation in conservation activities are seen only at the beginning of activity and did not bring any significant impact in changing attitudes towards environment. Through this research, the authors attempted to obtain in-depth understanding to collect data and conduct in-depth interviews with several informants through purposive sampling. This begins with analyzing the complexity of Akar wangi and identify the possible innovation for community residing in the village of Sukakarya through innovation trajectories for the sustainable social function, economic and environmental protection. Characteristic of commodities which is easily cultivated and quickly generated profits has become important factors causing people's dependence on this commodity. Government and other stakeholders have an important role in providing the direction of innovation, through the creation of negotiation and learning opportunities among actors with different values and interests. An opportunity that allows the interaction to happen, in which the circulation of knowledge keeps moving constantly improving the level of knowledge of each actor toward innovation sustainability and the sustainability of watershed functions in the process of building a society dwelling in the upper, middle and downstream of Cimanuk watershed. |
