Waterfront area is an important part of the city because it is a dynamic area that can accommodate a variety of activities in the city. Well designed waterfront area, would become an attractive destination for many people. In addition, it is also important to preserve the river because it has as significant role for human life. The river is a source of water as well as part of the urban ecosystem that can prevent flooding. <br />

Sense of place will create an attraction, because there is a meaning, character and locality that makes many people want to go back to that area. An area that survives as a place is the area that does not lose its identity. The scheme of the Deli river area will be achieved by enhancing the local identity that will creates a sense of place. Identity consists of three components, namely historical identity, social identity and economic identity. Enhancing historical identity carried out by maintaining historical artifacts and preserve the history of that area. Social identity will be strengthened by accommodating a variety of community activitiesthat took place in that area. Economic Identity is related with function, land use and spatial structure. By strengthening the historical identity, social identity and economic identity, a sense of place will be created in that area. <br />
