Water shut- off (WSO) is the process of closing the <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> pores of the rock with the help of particular polymer injection to minimize the effects of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> water coning. Polymer which proposed in this study is polyvinyl alcohol which is reacted <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> with a crosslinking agent. Generally, crosslinking agent used in the process WSO is the <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> metal chromium (III). However, chromium is included into the kind of heavy metal that can <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> pollute environment. The crosslinking agent proposed in this study is from the class of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> organic compounds, named glutaraldehyde. Formed polymer gel was then characterized <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> using infrared spectroscopy, and resulting peak area wavenumber 1,206.072 cm-1 and had a <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> viscosity of 31.79 cP. Value of porosity and permeability of the core is reduced from 22.9 to <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 11.52% and 255 be 85.98 mD. In addition, the gelation time of the polymer was depended on <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> several parameters such as polymer concentration, salinity, crosslinking agent concentration, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> and temperature. Hopefully this WSO process can increase oil production in Indonesia <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> without environmental degradation effect added. text |
