The growing numbers of popular architecture magazine published in Indonesia shows that the needs for architectural information among the society are also increasing. However, as the conveyor of information, not every people from the media have an architectural background. This research discussed about architectural information that can be acquired from popular architecture magazine using the perspective of architectural discipline, in order to understand the role of popular architecture magazine in dissemination of architectural information. Architectural information from 30 articles from Laras magazine will be mapped using content analysis method. The articles are selected from 60 Laras magazine issues published in the year 2004-2008 using purposive sampling method. This research also involved subjects as reviewers who evaluate the quality of architectural information in the articles. Six aspects of information will be used as criteria to evaluate and to map the information comprising contextual, biography, process, method, association, and use aspect. The final analysis showed that the quality of architectural information presented in Laras magazine had a decent level of satisfaction, except for the information on use aspect. The strength of Laras magazine lies on the continuity of 23 years of publication which provide richness of building diversities on its reviewed. The shortcoming of Laras magazine lies on subjective nature of the articles, written by the author. Referring to the strength and shortcoming of Laras magazine, it is hoped that this study could be a reference in order to improve the quality of architectural information provided by the popular architecture magazine in Indonesia. text |
