Summary: | Carbon dioxide (CO2) has become a serious problem in hydrocarbon exploration and environment problem related to global warming and temperature enhancement in the atmosphere. The presence of CO2 in the hydrocarbon reservoir cause higher production cost because it has corrosive character so that in the production process, it will soar cost because of especial infrastructure. In this paper, we learned CO2 characterization through seismic waves and discrimination hydrocarbon gas main strategy is classified gas into methane, ethane, and propane. Carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon gas characteristics can be determined with thermal parameter and elastic gas properties. Research method focused on discrimination model for carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon gas in the seismic parameters. Acoustic or seismic parameters formulation for CO2 is derived with approach to thermodynamics assumption in adiabatic condition as a function of pressure, temperature and Bulk Modulus. Determination of gas properties was obtainable based on Gassmann modeling equation so that we could discover saturated effect neither CO2 nor hydrocarbon gas for velocity-P and velocity-s in the effective pressure variation. Saturated carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon rocks based on modeling, it has different seismic parameter, velocity or acoustic impedance parameter. Modeling result has tested in the laboratory measurement with Seiscore device using real rocks for P-wave velocity and S-wave velocity measurement and we measure the core sample in condition of carbon dioxide and methane gas that it injected into the sample core. In this paper, we will show strength and weakness of various elastic parameters to discriminate CO2 over hydrocarbon gas, including their sensitivity to get a better knowledge of gas properties in the reservoir. |
