Summary: | The purpose of this research is to know geological aspect on research area which is administratively located in Cibodas Village, Majalengka Regency, West Java, and geographically located at coordinates 191790 m – 196799 m and 9241358 m – 9237283 m (UTM zone 49s), about 20 km2 (5 km x 4 km). This activity is done taking outcrops description and lab analysis. The research area is divided into five geomorphic units, such as Intrusion Hill Unit, Fault Hills Unit, Syncline Hills Unit, Homocline Ridge Unit, and Flood Surface Unit. There are two geomorphic stages in this area. The youth geomorphic stage for Intrusion Hill Unit, Fault Hills Unit, Syncline Hills Unit, Homocline Ridge Unit, and maturity geomorphic stage for Flood Surface unit. Based on lithological characteristics, there are five unofficial units in research area, from bottom to top : Sandstone – Mudstone A Unit, Sandstone – Mudstone B Unit, Breccia Unit, Conglomerate Unit, and Alluvial Unit. Then, there is Andesite intrusion that intruded the research area. There are lot of geological structures in research, such as strike and dip, Ci Pondoh thrust fault, Pejaten thrust fault, Ci Tayem thrust fault, Cibodas sinistral strike-slip fault, Mangkubumi normal fault, Sumurgintung syncline, Pancurendang Anticline, and Kalapadua Anticline. The Sandstone - mudstone A unit was deposited in the middle Miocene epoch. This unit was deposited via gravity flow mechanism which is turbidite flows at the lower fan of the submarine fan. At the stage of Late Miocene, the Sandstones – Mudstone B unit was aligned on top of sandstone - mudstone A through gravity flow mechanism at lower to middle fan of submarine fan. Submarine fan continued to growth which is characterized by breccia unit was deposited on the top Sandstone – Mudstone B unit at upper fan of the submarine fan. At the Pliocene – Pleistocene epoch, volcanic activity occurs marked by the intrusion of andesite. At that time also happened compressional deformation that causes the thrust faults accompanied by a tear fault and folds as concomitant structures. In the Early Pleistocene, the study area has been completely lifted into the surface and Conglomerate Unit was deposited by braided stream iv fluvial system. Geological processes continue to occur until this time in the form of erosion and sedimentation of alluvial deposits that form in several places. |
