Description
Summary:Indonesia is a country located in the World's Active Volcano Zone' Ring of Fire, have a high potential for disaster evident and it requires a concept of disaster risk-sensitive’s development. It has been much discussed study related disaster, especially viewed in the perspective of geology and in the process of post-disaster governance. Ineffectiveness coordination and communication in disaster governance in Indonesia are generally complained and we always faced the minimum

consideration in terms of the development paradigm that emphasizes disaster preparedness and strengthening the capacity of communities to disaster risk.

This thesis discusses the role of community radio as an entity that allegedly made a positive contribution to the handling of disaster governance. Strengthen the capacity of a prominent communicant built strong correlation relationships with people live in disaster-prone region that strengthens the capacity of the community against risk of disaster events. Although this study is specific, there is a strategic initiative to convey the need for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in communication in order to improve lack of disaster's governance to be more effective in Indonesia. The case study’s finding shows that Community Radio Network "Lintas Merapi" was playing prominent role in strengthening community capacity of country community whose lived in two villages (Balerante and Sidorejo) within disaster prone areas of Merapi's pyroclastic flows in 2010.

The study concludes that in general the role of the community radio network Lintas Merapi is quite effective in preparation of the community in disaster risk reduction. This study can be developed within the framework of risk-sensitive development policy as an anticipatory effort against the trend towards the increasing of settlement development in the prone disaster's zone.
