SHALE GAS POTENTIAL EVALUATION OF TANJUNG FORMATION AT TANJUNG FORMATION, BARITO BASIN, SOUTH KALIMANTAN PROVINCE.

Shale gas is natural gas produced from shale formations that serve as the source rock to the reservoir rock as well as natural gas. In terms of chemical composition, shale gas is dry gas (dry gas) which is mostly composed of methane (60-95% v / v), and some formations produce wet gas (wet gas). Alon...

Description
Summary:Shale gas is natural gas produced from shale formations that serve as the source rock to the reservoir rock as well as natural gas. In terms of chemical composition, shale gas is dry gas (dry gas) which is mostly composed of methane (60-95% v / v), and some formations produce wet gas (wet gas). Along with the development of technology and the increasing demand for energy, shale gas began to be explored and exploited as an unconventional reservoir rocks. Tanjung Field located in the Barito Basin is situated in Tanjung Raya of South Kalimantan has previously been known to have a producing hydrocarbon source rock, but the potential source rock as a producer gas with shale gas play system is not yet known. Evaluation of the potential of shale gas made at intervals of Tanjung Formation. The first stage is the environmental analysis performed on the data biostratigraphy, well core, side well core, source rock geochemistry and electrofacies interpretation. From the review of these data, the depositional environment of study area is interpreted to be littoral – sub-littoral with facies associations Open marine, shelf, fluvio-deltaik, Prodelta, and distributary mouth bar. The second step of analysis is well analysis including petrophysical interpretation and geochemical analysis. Petrophysical analysis aimed to calculate the volume of shale, rock total porosity, TOC values, and rock brittleness index. Geochemical analysis aimed to determine the maturity level and richness of rocks. The next step is to disseminate the results of modeling the petrophysical analysis throughout the study area with geostatistical methods to seismic data. Modelling done by seismic attributes volume shale distribution, richness distribution of rock, maturity level distribution and rock brittleness distribution.
From the the modeling, then performed the cutoff to delineate areas with potency as a good shale gas source rock and reservoirs. Those cutoff include TOC> 1%weight, % Ro> 0.6, BI> 0.5, and shale content> 0.35. From the the whole process of data processing, Tanjung Formation source rock has a good potential source rock and maturity modeling at the base of Lower Tanjung Formation has entered the maturity at Middle Miocene (± 13 Mya), but the potential of the reservoir is assumed to be small in terms of which can be observed on the map sweetspot .
