Summary: | The research area is located in Rajabasa volcano area, South Lampung District, Lampung Province. The study was conducted to understand both surface geological condition of Quaternary Volcanic Rajabasa and it’s vicinity, mapped in scale 1:12.500, and to understand the relation between fractures distribution in the area with the emergence of manifestations. Geomorphological analysis carried out by making both an areal analysis, which allows recognition of morphologically homogeneous area, and linear analysis,
which provides structural and volcano-structural features. Morphological analysis can be divided into 4 domains, from older to younger: domain I in the southeastern, domain II in the east-northeast , domain III in the west-southwest , and the domain IV in almost of Rajabasa volcano. Volcanostratigraphy of the study area were analyzed based on time, lithological characteristics, and the eruption center. Khuluk Mt. Tangkil formed of old andesite lava and deposited younger fall pyroclastic, khuluk Mt. Pematang Taman formed of pyroclastic fall, khuluk Mt. Balerang consisted of andesite lava, pyroclastic flow, basalt lava, and khuluk Mt. Rajabasa consisted of basalt lava and andesite lava .
Geological structures in the research area are the Mt. Botak Normal Fault trending southwest-northeast, Rajabasa Reverse Dextral Fault and Tangkil Dextral Fault, trending same orientation with the regional Sumatra Fault, northwestsoutheast. These faults control the emergence of manifestation in the vicinity of Rajabasa volcano.
Special study was conducted to determine the characteristics of the fracture distribution in the study area, by analyzed intensity, density, average space, average aperture, and orientation. It’s found that the fractures distribution of research area are
controlled by the distance to the main fault, the age of rocks, and the rheology of rocks. Occurrences manifestation is strongly influenced by the high of fracture intensity and density. |
