Summary: | Research area is a part of PT. Kaltim Prima Coal mining area which is geographically located at 0o 39’ 29” – 0o 41’ 7” North Latitude and 117o 25’ 30”- 117 o 28’ 13” East Longitude. This area has never been mapped in detail scale. Moreover, this area has coal resources which is interesting to be known. The purpose of this research is to map the research area in to 1:12.500 scales and to count the coal resource in the research area.
In general, the landscape of the research area forms hills with a NE trending homoclinal rock layer. This morphology is accompanied by skew to steep slope. The rivers that flow in the research area don’t show a significant pattern. However, those river flow as the strike of the rock layer and the trend of fault in the research area.
Based on the lithology characteristic, the research area has four lithological units. The first is sandstone unit which deposited in Middle Miocene on a delta plain. Then, limestone unit was deposited conformably above the sandstone unit in Middle Miocene on inner shelf which formed when the transgressive phase occurred. Still in Middle Miocene, claystone-sandstone unit was deposited conformably above the limestone unit on prodelta to lower delta plain. The change of this depositional environment was caused by delta progradation. After the deposition of claystone-sandstone unit, the claystone unit was deposited conformably above it in Middle Miocene on upper delta plain to fluvial system. In Pliocene, there was a regional inversion which caused the folding of those lithological units. This inversion also reactivated the Sangkulirang Fault which triggered the formation of reverse right-slip fault.
From the field observation, the research area has at least 13 coal seams. From correlated core and log data, this research area has at least 58 coal seams. Those seams don’t have continuity and the thickness changes laterally. The amount of coal resources on the research area was counted in polygon method. By this method, the measured coal resource on the research area reaches the number of 130.246.379 ton. |
