Summary:Schools in Indonesia is generally a one-story building with confined masonry systems that often do not have adequate performance in the hold of the earthquake. Structure with masonry walls system performs better in resisting seismic loads if the masonry walls are confined by reinforced concrete frame. Guidelines for planning and development as well as the analysis method of confined masonry are not well developed in Indonesia. <br /> <br /> Anilisys method of masonry walls and its interaction with reinforced concrete had been developed, for example by Holmes (1961), Wood (1978), Saneinejad and Hobbs (1995), Mostafaei and Kabeyasawa (2004), and others. Lie Ting Hwie (2011) had modeled the masonry wall with diagonal strut equivalent with noticed to nonlinear properties so the parameter of diagonal strut equivalent in the form of load-displacement trilinier curve based on the concept proposed by Mostafaei and Kabeyasawa (2004) in a modest house full scale. The analysis gave similar results with the experimental performed. In this study, the authors tried to use the concept proposed by Mostafaei and Kabeyasawa (2004) for school building. Research consisted of numerical static pushover analysis for structure of the school with confined masonry system and cyclic loading analysis for unit masonry wall model based on experiments that has been done by Ida I Dewa G. Wira Wijaya (2009). Structure model of the static pushover analysis is a school that has been built and using the SAP program to analyze it, while the model in cyclic pushover analysis is unit of confined masonry wall with reinforced concrete portal measures 3m x 3m (benchmark model), using OpenSees program to model the load in the form cyclic lateral loads. The performance parameters observed are failure mechanism, lateral capacity, and performance of structure in resisting seismic load. <br /> <br /> Based on the hysteretic curve, masonry walls contributed significantly to the strength and stiffness of the structure. The structure of performance level based on FEMA 273 was found to be immediate occupancy for earthquake loads in Pangalengan, Bandung. <br /> <br /> The results of the load-displacement curve for cyclic pushover analysis gave output that corresponded with envelop hysteresis curve of experimental results which has been done by Ida I Dewa G. Wira Wijaya (2009).
