The basic approach for determining the transformation between ballbar gauge and machine coordinates is to measure coordinate of points along the machine's individual axes motion along a circular path. Circular tests provide a quick and efficient way to measure the machine's contouring accuracies and then to diagnose its error sources. The circular tests show how the two axes work together to move the machine in a circular path. As the machine is traversing with multiple axes along a circular trajectory, each axis goes through sinusoidal acceleration, velocity and position changes. The measured circular path data will show any deviation the machine makes from a perfect circle. The homogeneous transformation matrix model are diagnosed and correlated to backlash, lateral play, cyclic error, servo mismatch, squareness error, straightness error and scale error. In this study, theoretical analyses of the relationship between error sources and homogeneous transformation matrix and implementation in the real machines show that the method has sufficient accuracy and is convenient for evaluating the motion accuracy of CNC machine tools. text
