Summary: | The aim of this study is to analyze hydrodynamic and sediment transport process in Muara Pegah, Mahakam Delta, as study area. The simulations have been run in 15 days using 3-dimensional baroclinic hydrodynamic and sediment transport model ECOMSED developed by HydroQual (2002). The hydrodynamic generating forces are tides and river discharges.Verifications of hydrodynamic simulation results show good correlation compared to observation data with error value 0.17 m (7%) for surface water elevations and 0.11 m/s (19.97%) for current speed magnitudes. Meanwhile, verifications of sediment transport simulation results show error value 31 mg/l with mean relative error precentage 35.04% for sediment concentrations. The tidal current patterns in Muara Pegah generally are heading to the river at flood and heading to the sea at ebb. The current speeds will be decreased with increasing of the depth. The movement patterns of sediment concentrations are correlated each other with the current speeds and directions. The sediment concentrations can be increased with increasing of the depth in resuspension area. The eroded areas are mainly in the channels and in the estuary mouths with erosion rate until 24 mm in 15 days. Meanwhile, the deposited areas are mainly in the branch and the edge of the channels with deposition rate until 4 mm in 15 days. |
