Summary: | Land cover changes will cause change in energy balance, and finally will lead to land surface temperature changes. Since detection of those changes is often difficult due to the lack of climatological stations at the surface, satellite technology becomes a good alternative for such purposes. This research was aimed to study the relation between land cover changes and land surface temperature changes. Bandung basin was chosen as a case study because they have a rapid area of development in urban areas than suburban areas. This is then referred to the phenomenon of Urban Heat Island (UHI). The data consisted of LANDSAT TM 5 band 7, 4, 2 (year 1996 and 2005), LANDSAT 8 band 7, 5, 3 (year 2013) for land cover change analysis, band thermal from each LANDSAT imagery for land surface temperature change analysis, and air temperature from BMKG Cemara station. The result shows that land surface temperature changed during the periods was affected by land cover change especially from vegetated area to settlement area. Settlement area during 1996 was 379 ha, during 2005 was 644 ha, during 2013 was 1.013 ha. In the same periods, the land surface temperature in urban areas tended to increase ±1-3 then the suburban areas. |
