Summary: | The southern part of East Java Basin including onshore and Madura Strait area is
one of the major petroliferous basin, but there are some exploration well activity
unsuccessfully to find hydrocarbon may be caused by several petroleum system factor
i.e. tectonic, stratigraphic and timing of hydrocarbon generation. Possibilities several
sub-basin that are in basin system resulting migration pathway changes and also
source rock not all act as kitchen area (active pod).
Two major structural trends are found in the East Java area: the E - W Sakala
trend and the NE - SW Meratus trend is evidence of the collision between a Microplate
(drifted continent) and Sundaland, starting approximately at Late Cretaceous to
Middle Eocene.
The oldest sedimentary unit deposited in Sakala trend is Eocene Pre-Ngimbang
Formation. Pre-Ngimbang Formation shows that unit is only found in Baluran and
Situbondo Sub-basin along the E-W trends is inherited from the pre-existing structural
trend of the micro-continent.
Based on data integration i.e.: geological, seismic, wireline log, gravity and
geochemistry, there are identified seven sub-basin that is segmented by NE – SW
lineaments and parallel with the Meratus structural trend. Hydrocarbon generation,
expulsion and migration at seven sub-basin have unique characteristic source rock and
may be multiple source rock. |
