According to the BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik) in 2008, the usage of fossil fuels in Indonesia is still in dominant, whereas it is noted that the 54% of its usage derived from crude oil. It is widely known that fossil fuel is a non-renewable energy source and the process of its formation requires a very long time. Therefore, it is noticed that renewable energy sources are expected to be way out of society's dependence on fossil fuels. One of the answers is the usage of biomass. In general, biomass is the raw material obtained from plants, either directly or indirectly and utilized as an energy source. How biomass are calculated and estimated of its total amount can be done in various ways. For example, we can measure directly on the field and also with remote sensing techniques such as Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR). Further step, the processing of data from the study area in the acquisition of oil palm plantations in Prabumulih, South Sumatra area of approximately 9 hectares produce as many as 1454 trees with the height of the tree trunk 5 - 13.5 m, and the diameter of the tree trunk at breast height or commonly known as Diameter Breast Height (DBH) is generated in the range of 20-50 cm. In the final stage of the process, the data has been processed furthermore to produce the estimated amount of biomass on the figure of 637,1518354 ton and carbon stocks 280,3468706 ton contained in the study area. The result of these data is appropriate and reasonable when the data is matched by validating the various papers references related to the topic of this final project and previous researches conducted and performed with the destructive sampling method by using direct measurement on the field text |
