Description
Summary:Ambon Inner Bay is a narrow and shallowbay with depth ranging from 10 to 40 meters. TAD separated from Outer Bay (TAL) by narrow and shallow area (sill) with600 m in length and 15 meter in depth. The blooming of HAB species of Pyrodinium bahamense var compressum have been appeared and identified since 1994. This study aims to determine the PBC cell density distribution in TAD. Numerical model simulation to see the influence of ocean dynamics to the distribution of PBC cells is important concerning of higly frequency of blooming abundace.

Hydrodynamic model using Princeton Ocean Model (POM), simulated from 15 May – 8 June 2009. The input for model at the open boundary is tidal elevation obtained from Tide Model Driver (TMD). The residual current was used as the input forthe simulation of the spread of PBC cells for 150 days.

The result of model scenarioshows high density Pyrodinium bahamense var compressumcells abundance after six days of simulation in location 3 and day 103 in location 6. The process of cell spreading by advection and diffusion causes the cell density transported to the Ambon Outer Bay.Nutrient consentration become the limitation of cells growth and viable cyst transformation to vegetative cells.
