Description
Summary:Chemistry is an experimental based science. Thus in teaching chemistry, practical work is a must. As an effort to equip tools needed for practical work, teaching aids development such as tools for small scale chemistry is needed. This work aims to develop small scale chemistry equipments, to carry out the test of developed equipment, comparing the developed equipment with the available equipments, as well as to map the proposed practical work using the equipment into current high school chemistry curriculum. To develop the teaching aid the following steps have been under taken : thorough study of high school curriculum, determination of the chosen equipments, development of the equipments, testing the developed equipments, refinements the equipments, and evaluation in terms of their suitability for practical work in the high school chemistry. The developed equipments are set of equipments that could be used for practical works in topic of stoichiometry, electrolyte and non electrolyte, electrochemistry, and reaction produces the gas. In comparison to similar equipments available in the market, the developed equipment have the following advantages: using the materials and tools that relatively easy to obtain, low cost, safe, practical, easy to operate, quite accurate, using small quantity of chemicals, produce very small wastes, does not require special laboratory techniques, and could be used to explain/prove the studied phenomenon. From this work, it is expected that the produced equipments could be used as an alternative laboratory equipments, and could trigger teacher/student initiative to develop similar equipments.
