Summary: | Lokon volcano is part of the Sangihe volcanic arc system related to the Maluku collision zone. Time intervals between eruptions of this volcano were very long (400 years) before 1800, but eruption frequency suddenly increased after 1829. The intervals of eruptive activities were typically 1-4 years with variation of dormancy periods of 8-64 years. The last big eruption took place in 1991. The series of 2011 eruption began with a phreatic eruption that occurred on February 22nd, 2011.This final project is aim to analyze deformation of continuous GPS observation point in Lokon volcano. GAMIT software is used to analyze continuous GPS observation data of KKVO, KINL, and WALN station in 2009-2014. The movement then referenced againts KKVO to eliminate block motion and shows volcanic displacement. Strain Analyses is done by computing baseline strain and area strain formed by three CGPS station of Lokon Volcano. Results shows a difference of displacement patterns in three period of eruption activity in 2009-2014. Strain pattern among observation point from baseline analyses is compression. Deformation of Lokon volcano is characterized by increasing compression in north-south direction toward tompaluan crater when it about to errupt. |
