Description
Summary:Currently, conventional natural gas are exploited all out to achieve energy security state of Indonesia. However, conventional gas is finite, eventually the conventional gas production and reserves will decline and low. To anticipate the shortage of gas, we need to explore new resources (unconventional resources), one of which is shale gas. Shale gas is a claystone that has a high TOC content, brittle and is in the zone of dry gas window. This study describes the early exploration of the presence or absence of shale gas potential in one block in South Sumatra basin area

In this study, will be described the integration of geochemical data, rock physics and simultaneous seismic inversion for characterization and searching for shale gas potential. Stages of early exploration of gas shale play covers sweetspot analysis using the log pseudo Passey then create a TOC in the target formation. Second, map the overpressure area to avoid any potential pitfall when mapping zone. Third, performing simultaneous seismic inversion to map the distribution of clay based on the parameters Vp / Vs and map its TOC content through conversion from Vp parameter.

The result, based on log analysis, research well have one target zone of potential shale gas with TOC above 1% and thickness of 100 feet. Integration of pore pressure data, shale distribution and TOC distribution of the target zone shows two potential areas in western, north-south trending, and in the eastern part of the well. Both locations are to be recommendations for the next pilot holes to take a new complete data and to evaluate the shale gas reservoir deeply.
