Description
Summary:PT Berau Coal (PTBC) is coal mining company located in Berau, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. PTBC has been operated since 1993 with the first opened mine pit area in Lati Site. During the long period of operating works, there are many opened space and some disposal area were made. One of disposal area is located in Lati Site called south QO3. South QO3 disposal still potential to generate acid until now however the final reclamation status of this disposal has been reached since the beginning of 2000. Water product from this disposal has the range of PH about 3.2 – 4.5 with 2,369 mg/l of sulfat. In order to overcome acid mine water pollution from the disposal is by make a passive treatment system, integrating drainage system in base disposal with the treatment system by constructing aerobic wetland and open limestone channel. Water quality test is held to investigate concentration of total iron and manganese, total suspended solid (TSS) and pH. After the water flow at passive treatment channel, the contaminant concentration decrease at each system. For waste water flowing at aerobic wetland, the concentration of total iron decrease 93.11%, manganese 28.11 %, TSS 73.66 % and pH increasing 7.3 %. for waste water flowing at open limestone channel, the concentration of total iron decrease 67.36 %, manganese 41.33 %, TSS 32.26 % and pH increasing 25.29 %. so the contaminant decreasing of waste water from aerobic wetland pool until open limestone channel for iron 86.8 9%, manganese 46.64 %, TSS 55.51 % and pH increasing 35.64 %.
