Description
Summary:According to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), the continental shelf’s defined as the seabed and subsoil of the area below sea level that outside the territorial sea, along the continuation of natural land to the outer periphery edge of the continental, or up to a distance of 200 nautical miles from the baselines. Formula line is one of the condition to determine the extend of continental shelf which more than 200 nautical miles. The purpose of this research are to determine the aspects of formula line that called Gardiner Line by connecting the outer most point where the thickness sedimentary rocks at least 1% from the shortest distance of foot of continental slope, and then to compare or investigate the effect of Gardiner Line for Indonesia to expand its continental shelf in the South East Nusa Tenggara. The metode that used in this study are form the Gardiner Line by using global data, as well as study literature about scientific jurnal as the reference. After that comparing the position of gardiner line with 200 nautical miles. The result of this study contains the way to form Gardiner Line, and Gardiner Line are formed around 11 degree untill 11.5 degree south latitude and around 114 degree until 120 degree east longitude, and we can conclude from that result, Indonesia has no profit to expand the continental shelf by using Gardiner Line in southeast Nusa Tenggara. Because Gardiner Line that formed are not exceed to the 200 nautical miles line.
