This study discusses about potential area and potential time for olives cultivation. The data used is weather observation data, rainfall estimates satellite data TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission), and ERA-Interim reanalysis data for 5 years between 2008–2012. Besides, it also used soil parameter data from Great Office of Research and Development of Agricultural Land Resources (BBSDLP) to determine distribution of surface soil texture in study’s area.

Spatial analysis of temperature and precipitation showed western part of the Flores Island, which represented by Ruteng Meteorological Station, is the potential area for olives cultivation. Potential area in western Flores Island has 92.121,86 ha. Analysis of temporal temperature showed olives growth can occur throughout a year in the Ruteng region. Flowering phase occurs in the third decade of July until second decade of September. Yield formation and ripening phase occure in third decade of September until second decade of March. Irrigation is required during flowering phase because lack of water supply from effective rainfall at that phase. Drainage is required during yield formation until ripening phase because over of water supply from effective rainfall at that phase. text
