These manuals generally do not provide airplane aerodynamics and stability characteristics which cover the performance of related airplane. The purpose of this final project is to provide longitudinal and lateral-directional stability characteristics of common airplanes used by airlines in Indonesia. This work can be achieved by calculating stability derivatives coefficients. The computation of stability derivatives is accomplished using two methods: AAA and Datcom. Validation of the result was accomplished by comparison to flight reference data for a B747-200. Analysis shows the comparison of the two methods, applicable configuration of each method, and how close the results of the two methods to one another. Finally, to fulfill the purpose of this final project, longitudinal and lateral-directional stability characteristics of other civil transport aircraft are also included. The other aircraft are Airbus 330-300, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-800, and Boeing 747-400. The results are shown in root locus characteristics to show their static stability in longitudinal and lateral-directional modes in related conditions. The general results of the estimation and its analysis may be used by aircraft operators as independent comparison material in case of trouble concerning their aircraft fleet. text
