Description
Summary:Consolidation is a process of pore water dissipation as a function of time. The dissipation of pore water pressure increases the shear strength of soil, so that the can sustain it required final load. In most geotechnical cases, preloading implementation, which is combined with installation of vertical drain. Soil improvement using preloading and vertical drain is relatively more effective compared to other soil improvement method. Easy to construct, relatively more

economical in cost, is the major advantages of this method. The purpose of preloading is to accelerate consolidation process of weak and soft soil layer as

bearing stratum, and to gain soil shear strength prior to impose of the final load.

Therefore the stages of loading be planned so the soil finally will be able to carry design load and the excessive settlement can be reduced. The analysis using the finite element method using Plaxis Geotechnic Program version 7 and Excel program. Modeling analysis is done in two assumption, first with the using without vertical drain and the other one with the using vertical

drain. Soft soil and Mohr-Coulomb model were used in the analysis. The result of this study consist of behavior of considered soil which is: excess pore water pressure, pore water pressure, and displacement. The relationship of displacement versus time using Mohr-Coulomb model obtained larger elastic deformation than soft soil model. Mean while, soft soil model obtained larger deformation caused by consolidation than Mohr-Coulomb model. From excel, the relationship of consolidation degree from the analyzed model.
