One of the category is public space at waterfront/riverside that have some potensials of historical value and city’s elements. Therefore, an effort will be attempted to create public and green space on the riverside of Batanghari River at the city of Jambi, as the study area. The design of public spaces on the river banks would be purposed for accommodating various activities, hence, the spaces should be flexible in terms of activities, time and use. To create a flexible public space at the river banks, it will be use the concepts of unvolumetric architecture. Unvolumetric architecture concept will not be used in the design process as a theory to analyze the existing condition. It reveals that the elements of unvolumetric architecture of public spaces design such as shelters, enclosures, figures, and events, can accommodate a space for various activities, time and use. The aim of this thesis is to create a design of public space at riverside which is not only as open space or green spaces, but also supporting buildings, such as commercial functions, gallery, workshop center, and others. text
