However, this work will discuss only one of those features that related to fluvial process: gullies. An image of channel with dendritic networks captured by Mariner 9 (1972) near Nirgal Vallis marked the existence of fluvial process in Mars for the first time. Then an image of flood terrain contained with hydrated minerals captured by Pathfinder (1997) seemed to confirm about water on Mars that supports fluvial process. Meanwhile, in the same year, Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) for Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) mission investigation suggested that there is no precipitation-fed fluvial process on Mars. <br /> <br /> <br /> The existence of gullies and some other geological features around it, such as transverse aeolian ridges (TAR), become more and more interesting research with improved, high resolution images of High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) mainly because we need to know the real formation mechanism. text |
