Summary: | Iron is one of element which the existence is very abundance in nature and has important role as component of industrial standard angle blocks of iron and steel.

West coastal area of Seluma District is one of area which having potency the forming of element accumulation of iron in the form ironsand deposit. Therefore, need to be done research to know about distribution and potency of ironsand deposit in the location. Study done covers megascopic analysis (morphology, deposition structures, deposit type), analysis of magnetism degree, microscopic

analysis (polish section and grain counting), grade calculation of Fe element, pattern analysis as of spread correction, and resources calculation. The results

showed that the distribution of iron sand deposits in Pematang Batu Block is not spread evenly, only found in very limited areas, which occupies 52.18 ha area, in

coastal areas parallel to the beach with a characteristic black precipitate - grayish black, grain size of fine sand to coarse sand, iron sand layer thickness varies between 10-60 cm, lenses geometry and inserts a thin layer, mineral composition consists of magnetite, hematite, ilmenite, rutile, goethite, quartz,
pyroxene and amphibole. Generally, these minerals liberated on medium sand grain size - fine sand, with an average mineral content of magnetic carrier Fe = 42.10%, and cadar of the element Fe Total = 29.47%, while for the samples at magnetic minerals (concentrate) average magnetic carrier mineral content of Fe = 78.34%, and cadar of the element Fe Total = 54.84%. Average sediment
thickness up to 4 meters, ironsand resources amounting to 5.37 million tons, and the magnetic mineral resources (concentrates) of 714.45 thousand tons. |
