Summary: | Radio astronomy is an important branch of astronomy which only recently has been developed in Indonesia. One of the crucial aspects of radio astronomy development are the mapping and mitigation of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) which is detrimental toward radio astronomy observation. RFI profile mapping is also necessary in order to search a site candidate for a new radio observatory in Indonesia.

This final project aims to design a measurement technique and map RFI profiles in the Bosscha Observatory, Lembang. The measurement method used is adapted from a protocol testing site for future radio telescope project, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). Equipment used to measure the RFI in this final project is a spectrum analyzer GW Instek GSP-830.

Previous measurements had been carried out by Hidayat et al. (2014) using SKA protocol mode 1. As a continuation of the study, the present study will further examine RFI profile by performing measurements using methods with higher sensitivity, by using the measurement method adapted from SKA protocol mode 2. In this final project, will be presented preparatory measures as well as the results of measurements of the RFI. |
