Geographically, the research area is located in 6˚51’15’’ – 6˚55’52’’ S dan 108o32’00’’ – 108o35’21,5’’ E with total area of 53 km2. Morphologically, the research area is consisted of hills, valleys, and plain area with elevation between 75,2 – 417,2 masl. Geomorphological units in the research area is divided into three geomorphological units: Folded Hills Unit, Pyroclastic Flow Plain Unit, and Folded Valleys Unit. Meanwhile, based on its lithological characteristic the research area is divided into five rock units, from the oldest to the youngest: Claystone Unit which is equivalent with Halang Formation, Sandstone Unit equivalent with Ciherang Formation, Sandstone-Claystone Unit equivalent with Gintung Formation, Pyroclastic Breccia Unit equivalent with Younger Ciremai Volcanic Product, and Alluvial Deposit Unit. In Late Miocene – Early Pliocene, Claystone Unit was deposited on the eastern part of the research area in Middle Neritic – Upper Bathyal environment with turbidity current as depositional mechanism. Still in the same epoch on the western part of the research area, Sandstone Unit was also deposited in continental to Inner Neritic depositional environment. These Claystone Unit and Sandstone Unit are interbedded with each other. Then, in the Plio-Pleistocene, tectonic activities increased which resulted in research area being folded and faulted. In Pleistocene, the SandstoneClaystone Unit was deposited unconformably with continental depositional environment. Then in Holocene, there were increasing volcanic activities of Mount Ciremai and as a result, Pyroclastic Breccia Unit was deposited unconformably above all the older rock units. Until now, exogenic processes such as erosion and sedimentation are still happening in the research area. text |
