Description
Summary:The Sumatran fault zone system has been studied by any science discipline in order to understand seismicity and tectonic activities. Previously, hypocenter relocation for all sub segments of the Sumatran fault has not been done yet. In this study investigates seismicity of sub segments of the Sumatran fault zones using data catalogue data provided by BMKG-Indonesia from 2009-2011. Hypocenter relocation used double-difference method with 1-D velocity model based on previous research. The double-difference method was developed and modified of the Geiger method by using arrival time difference of earthquakes pairs at each station while linking together all observed event-station pairs.

The results show many improvements after hypocenter relocation. Shallow earthquakes are not only in fix depth position but also in many depth positions. Slab angle can be identified well with variation from 400-700. The average of maximum depth bellow Sumatran fault about 40 km. Return period of big earthquakes on sub segments was computed with simple method but the results were not accurate. The catalogue after hypocenter relocation can be used as reference data for seismic hazard assessment or seismic tomography study in Sumatran fault area.
