Description
Summary:The East Java Basin is a basin that has a disastrous drilling history (where a disastrous drilling history is took place), as happened in Sidoarjo. This is due to the occurrence of shale or claystone which is thick enough to lead to overpressure condition. Therefore, the knowledge of pore pressure and the mud weight used to combat the pressure is highly important. The approach used to determine pore pressure value with Eaton empirical method is generally done only on wells. In this study, lateral determination of pore pressure value is done with the assistance of seismic data. The data used were wireline log and seismic interval velocity. Both of these data are integrated to generate the estimation of pore pressure value and the overpressure distribution in the East Java Basin. The overpressure that occurred in this study area is caused by loading mechanism in which sediment failed to be compacted perfectly (disequilibrium compaction). The top of overpressure follows relatively the horizon structure of existing formation.
