Description
Summary:The relation of velocity and porosity can be used to estimate porosity of rocks. Estimation of other important parameters can be developed by finding the correlation among porosity, saturation, and elastic properties of rock, e.g. by means of effective medium approximation. Currently available effective medium approximation methods, such as the Voigt-Reuss, Hashin-Shtrikman, and Kuster-Toksӧz, give range for the elastic modulus of rocks. In this study we combine Voigt-Reuss model to investigate elastic properties of rocks. Other parameters such as fluid content and lithology can be predicted by using Lambda-Mu-Rho relation. Lambda-Mu-Rho is calculated using Voigt-Reuss, Hashin-Shtrikman, Küster-Toksӧz and proposed model. Mu-rho versus lambda-rho is plotted to classify fluid content and lithology. The combined model can produce velocity close to sand-clay mixture in the range 14% to 30%. This model give narrower velocity range than Voigt-Reuss model. However, this model has not been able to cover all existing data value. Murho versus lambda-rho curve for the Voigt-Reuss model shows linear trend. HashinShtrikman and Küster-Toksӧz models show similar with parabolic curve. The proposed model gives different type than the others that expected to explain the higher value of lambda-rho (approximately to 50 Gpa*gr/cc).
