Description
Summary:Phosphor is a material that can absorb lights and emits it back according to the material itself. Phosphor has wide application in many sector such as photoluminescence, electroluminescence, radioluminescence, and white LED. Phosphor material is made to, aside of its function, push Indonesia market of phosphor where the materials are available abundantly.

In this research, there has been made phosphor BCNO material with ingredients such as boric acid, urea, tapioca, and silica. The process involved mixing of boric acid and urea untill homogeneous and then mixed with tapioca solution (starch) 0,5% and 1% mass. The results then dried while stirred on magnetic stirrer. Silica powder with 3% mass added to the powder then heated at 650oC for 2 hours.

The specimen, BCNO/SiO2, characterized with X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Enegy Dispersion Spectroscope (EDS). Visually, specimen ability to absorb lights has been tested by putting the specimen under the light source and observing the color changing when the light source is shut.

XRD analysis showed phases BN, B2O3, and carbon remnance. Silica addition can clear carbon in material. Crystal size calculated by Scherrer’s formula observed at 27-41 nm. SEM observation shows that starch addition as carbon source can cause aglomeration. Starch reducing from 1% to 0,5% can clear the aglomeration.Boric acid and urea can affect particle size.Use of 1,4 M solution of urea and boric acid made the particle in range of 20-50 m. The result of exposing specimen with halogen lamp showed yellow emission.
