USE WRF-FIRE MODEL FOR ANALYSIS FIRE SPREAD OF WILDFIRE (CASE STUDY CENTRAL KALIMANTAN)

Wildfires are a major cause of deforestation in Indonesia. To manage the prevention of the expansion of wildfire, model is needed to predict the spread fire of wildfire. One model that can be used to look at the behavior of the fire spreading wildfire are WRF-Fire. This research’s aimed to see wh...

One model that can be used to look at the behavior of the fire spreading wildfire are WRF-Fire. This research’s aimed to see whether the WRF-Fire model can be used as a prediction the spread fire of wildfire. WRF-Fire is expected to be used as an early warning system of wildfire. Research was conducted to see the fire spread of wildfire at Sabangau National Park, Central Kalimantan on 3 October 2006. Configuration of WRF-Fire in this research domain 1 with resolution 1km x 1km and domain 2 with resolution 200m x 200m. For the meteorological input, uses a Global Forecast System data from National Center for Environment Protection (NCEP), topographic data from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and land cover data from Global Land Cover 2000. WRF-Fire model results show the fire spread of wildfire in Central Kalimantan on 3 october 2006 tend to spread to the northwest at 6 hours and to the north in the next 6 hours. However, when compared with former wildfire data is processed imagery Terra/Aqua MODIS there is the differences in land area burned WRF-Fire model results with field data. This happen because the wind speed from model results is greater than observation and the use of fuel properties that need to be studied further to Indonesia. Although the model WRF-Fire is can in modeling fire spread of wildfire. However, takes a long time to produce results from existing resource computer. So WRF-Fire model is still not good it is used as a prediction of fire spread of wildfire. text
