Description
Summary:Self-Potential (SP) method or known as Spontaneous Potential is a passive method where there is no electrical current injection to the earth. In this method, natural electrical potential is measured by a sensitive voltmeter digital (in mV). SP measurement based on occurrence of the electrical field on surface, that caused by an anomaly in subsurface. In this master thesis, SP method is applicated in identification study and velocity analyses of injection water flows in X-location, South Sumatera. Data acquisition was held on August 1-18 2010, with the study area 3.4km x 1.6km (1155 measured points). In case of water flows, SP method measures streaming-potentials or electrokinetic-potentials which are generated by movement of injection water through pores and fractures.

Generally, oil production field consist of production and injection wells, sometime some fields have any problems, they cause abandoned and suspended wells. Suspended wells are caused by leak or broken of casing. These cause injection water flows around the wells. In order to identify the locations of flows and direction of injection water flows, we use Self-Potential/Streaming Potential method (SP).

In this master thesis, writer uses SP data and velocity analyses to identify the locations of injection water flows laterally. We use resistivity data to identify the locations of injection water flows in depth. Subsurface vertical flows can be identified from SP data where there is changing of positive SP data to negative SP data significantly. Injection water flows from high SP values to low SP values and in opposite direction to SP gradient.
