Summary: | Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) is one of the efforts of global warming mitigation technology with the aim to reduce the amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) spread on
the atmosphere as the result of pollution from human’s activities. This Master's Degree thesis discuses the initial stage in planning the CCS technology, which is

identifying the existence of CO2 sources and evaluating the reserve of the CO2. The location and the capacity amount are ones of the key factors in the success of

CCS Project. The Sumatran Basin is chosen as the place of the study. There are three kinds of reservoir to inject CO2 in the basin, namely saline aquifer reservoir, CBM reservoir, and oil and gas reservoir. The methods used in this study are quantitative and theoretical methods. Specifically on oil and gas fields it is conducted the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) selections based on reservoir data and well production, then it is theoretically calculated the amount of CO2 that could be injected to the reservoir. The evaluation of CO2 emission resources is gained from five major industries located in South Sumatera. Quantitatively

calculated the total amount of CO2 emission from industrial waste is 5.5 MMTon/year. Theoretically the result of the calculation of the potential salin aquifer

reservoir as the reserve of CO2 emission is 7.65 Gigatonnes, while the CBM reservoir is 3.98 Gigatonnes. The result of the selection and calculation of CO2

emission capacity potential that could be injected to the oil and gas reservoir is 72.23 MMTon. However, oil and gas data used in this study only cover 43 fields

(34%) of total 124 oil and gas fields in South Sumatera. It is assumed that the result of the potential would be higher, if the study is conducted using all available oil and gas field data in South Sumatera. In conclusion, if the CCS project is conducted only with oil and gas reservoir target injection (72,23 MMTon), using CO2 emission resources from waste of industrial activity with 5.5 MMTon/year, it may last for 13.1 years and in result will add more oil and gas recovery factor for about 392,60 MMSTB. This result is not as big as if the salin aquifer reservoir and CBM are becoming the reserves of CO2. From this research shows that South Sumatera has big potential of becoming the location of CCS project in the future. |
