Description
Summary:Measurement of flow rate is one of important activities in process industries such as oil and gas industry. Data obtained from the measurement are used as the basis

of custody transfer. Therefore, these measurements require high accuracy and precision. One of few instruments that can be used for this purpose is a transit time ultrasonic flowmeter. The transit time ultrasonic flowmeter measures the air flow rate based on the differences of upstream transit time and downstream transit time. On this project, multi-path ultrasonic flowmeter is designed to measure air flow in the pipeline with asymmetric profile. Before designing the flowmeter, numerical simulations are carried out to the flowmeter configurations that may be applied. Configurations tested are DIAM, ORTH, THREE, DORTH, MID, LIN, and DTRI. Simulations are carried out to test the performance of each configuration. Based on the simulations, it was decided to use LIN (three parallel paths) configuration to the ultrasonic flowmeter that is designed. This is due to its performance parameter value with average hydrodynamic factor of 1.006, average

orientation sensitivity factor of 0.021, orientation range factor that is higher than other configurations and also the ease of its implementation. From these simulations, the ultrasonic flowmeter is designed using the selected configuration. In this ultrasonic flowmeter, dual transducers are used, so upstream and downstream transit time measurements can be performed simultaneously. From the measurement results obtained by using an ultrasonic flowmeter, the flow velocity value is 3.53 m/s with a precision of 3.10%.
