The rats were induced with carrageenin and the essential oil was orally administered at various doses compared to curcumine and indomethacin. For the acute toxicity test, the essential oil was orally administered at doses of 200-1800 pl per kg body weight. The results showed that the anti-inflammatory activity of the essential oil of 800 p1 was equivalent to 30 mg of curcumine and that of 1000 pl to 20 mg indomethacin. The ulcer index of 800 p1, 1000 pl of essential oil, 20 mg of indomethacin and 30 mg curcumine were 23.20; 29.60; 50.00; and 4.40 respectively. The oral LD5o of essential oil was 1150 mg per kg body weight of mice. text |
