DEPOSITIONAL ENVIRONMENT EVOLUTION STUDY OF SEVERAL AREAS DURING PLIO-PLEISTOCENE IN JAWA BASED ON MOLLUSCAN PALEONTOLOGICAL ASPECT

Development of depositional paleoenvironment evolution study based on molluscan paleontological aspect was applied to Kaliwangu Formation - Citalang Formation rock unit at Ujung Jaya Area, Sumedang, West Jawa; Kalibiuk Formation – Kaliglagah Formation lithologic unit at Bumiayu Area, Brebes, and...

The depositional environment evolution study aims are: to determine molluscs associations and to interpret depositional environments of each lithologic unit based on the sections data. Comparison on the development of depositional environment evolution and molluscan associations changed from one to another area will be concluded. Data used in this research were based on the composition and distribution of molluscan fossil assemblages that analysed using semi quantitative analysis method from each study area. Kaliwangu Formation molluscs fossils content at Ujung Jaya Area indicates the existence of three molluscan associations and three depositional environments, with no molluscs association in the beginning of Citalang Formation deposition as non marine sediments. Molluscan fossils study from Kalibiuk Formation at Bumiayu Area indicates that there are two mollusc associations with two depositional environments, and there were found three freshwater molluscs associations from overlaid rock unit of Kaliglagah Formation. Paleontological study of Bantardawa-Talanggudang Formation from Patikraja Area reveals two mollusc associations of marine depositional environment (subtidal-intertidal), with no mollusc associations in the beginning of non marine sediments. Depositional environment boundary from marine to non-marine condition from three locations of the studied area shown the same period, during Plio-Pleistocene time. text
