Description
Summary:Study on the characteristics of tin alluvial deposit around the Kundur Estuary, Riau Islands was conducted in order to learn about the characteristics of tin alluvial deposit and the variation of distribution. Studies conducted on the concentrates of alluvial deposit at Kundur Estuary include the grain size and mineralogical analysis of the six sampling points at the West Kundur Island. The alluvial deposit is dominated by sand, consist of cassiterite as the main mineral and the minor minerals are magnetite, hematite, monazite, pyrite, marcasite, ilmenit, xenotime, zircon, leucosen, limonite, pyroxene, amphibole, tourmaline, and quartz. Based on interpretation of the mineralogical characteristics, tin alluvial deposit at Kundur Estuary is controlled by an ancient river system and transported near the source rock, and it is predicted that source of material deposit is originated from Kundur Island as well as surrounding islands. Characteristics of grains mineralogy, the distribution pattern of tin alluvial deposition and its depositional environment interpretation can be used as a parameter in the exploration activities that can be used as a concept in the reserves estimation. Cassiterite with the size of medium and fine sands can be used as a base in the consideration of reserves estimation towards the direction of northeast-southwest mineralization.
