Summary: | Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) have many benefits but also can be harmful to human health and safety. In atmospheric conditions, VOCs have the ability to trigger a fire. One of the compounds that's categorized as VOCs is methanol. Direct exposure to methanol gas can cause nausea, dizziness, headaches, loss of coordination and loss of visual function. Semiconductor thin film ZnO with nanorod structure has the ability to detect methanol gasas sensing element. This thin film can be synthesized using Zinc Nitrate Tetrahydrate as precursor and both methods of Dip-Coating and Chemical Bath Deposition. Sensors responses to methanol gas exposure show that the sensitivity and conductivity sensorsincrease, whileresponse time and recovery time decrease asthe operating temperatures increase. Optimal temperature sensor with once CBD process is at 250oC, with sensitivity of 90.89%, response time of 4.6 minutes
and 8.5 minutes recovery time. Optimal temperature sensor with twice CBD process is at 300oC, with a sensitivity of 93.58%, response time of 1.9 minutes
and 3.9 minutes recovery time. |
