Casing while drilling is technology that using casing as drillstring rather than using drillpipe. The objective is to minimize non-productive time related to tripping and casing running proccess or non-productive time due to mitigating drilling hazard. Using casing as drillstring can cause casing to have an extra load from mechanical loading, hidraulics loading, rotation, and vibration. Hidraulics loading in hole cleaning procedure can cause outer diameter of casing eroded by drilling cutting friction or impingement while inner diameter of casing will eroded by drillstring metal collision. Erosion can attenuate casing wall so casing strength and lifetime will decreasing. The result of erosion study in Casing while drilling application shows that internal erosion is more significant in case of decreasing casing strength where burst pressure and collapse resistance reduced by 380-430 psi and tensional strength reduced by 113000 lbf with reduction in thickness of 7.6% compared with external erosion which is only decreasing burst, collapse, and tensional strength of 10 psi, 10 psi, and 4000 lbf respectively and also attenuating casing’s outer diameter of 0.23%. text
