GEOCHEMICAL DISPERSION PATTERN IDENTIFICATION OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS (REE) AND TUNGSTEN ON SOIL AT THE TIKUS DEPOSIT, SIJUK DISTRICT, BELITUNG REGENCY, BANGKA BELITUNG ISLANDS PROVINCE

Tikus deposit is the primary tin-tungsten hosted in granite. The granite is classified as S-type and contains greisen rich in primary cassiterite and wolframite and indicated also bears REE. Weathering caused dispersion on REE and tungsten in soil as a product of weathering. This research aims to id...

The granite is classified as S-type and contains greisen rich in primary cassiterite and wolframite and indicated also bears REE. Weathering caused dispersion on REE and tungsten in soil as a product of weathering. This research aims to identify the geochemical dispersion of REE and tungsten on soil. Samples were taken from B horizon. XRD analysis was performed to identify the minerals, ICP-MS and XRF analysis were employed to analyze the elements, megascopy observation to was employed to identify soil characterisitics, and microscopy observations was performed to identify tungsten and REE minerals. The result of this research indicates weathering process caused primary minerals on granite such as feldspar, muscovite and plagioclase altered into clay mineral such as kaolinite and illite on soil sample. Wolframite is tungsten-bearing mineral meanwhile zircon, xenotime, and monazite are REE-bearing minerals. These minerals are moderately to highly resistant to weathering. ICP-MS analysis identified tungsten and 16 elements of REE (except Promethium). High concentration of REE and tungsten located on mining site controlled by each of primary minerals on granite, clay minerals which trap REE and tungsten, mobility, and fractionation of each element. REE and tungsten exhibit superjacent (elements laterally dispersed above parent rock) till halo (elements centrally dispersed) dispersion pattern. text
