SIMULATION OF WIND GUST-PRODUCING THUNDERSTORM OUTFLOW OVER BLOK MAHAKAM USING WRF (CASE STUDY FEBRUARI 24, 2011)
In this study, simulation was used to determine the incidence of wind gust due to thunderstorm outflow event that occurred on February 24, 2011 in the Mahakam Block. The top of the convective cloud of the thunderstorm outflow producer is located in the western part of the Mahakam Block during a wind...

The simulation in this research is using Weather Research and Forcasting - Advance Research WRF (WRF-ARW) model. The parameterization configuration of the WRF model is the MYJ scheme for Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) parameterization, the Kain-Fritsch scheme for cumulus parameterization, and Lin scheme for the parameterization of the microphysics. The convective clouds that associated with these strong wind events were successfully simulated using the WRF model and showed a pattern common to MTSAT satellite imagery. This convective cloud can be categorized as an Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) that produced thunderstorm outflow event. When it reached the Mahakam Block, this convective cloud had begun to enter its dissipation stage and the thunderstorm outflow events enter its early mature stage. The occurrence of this outflow caused wind gusts event at that time. The wind speed parameter of the WRF model shows quite the same result with observational data in five observation stations. The occurrence of strong winds in this event occurs within a gust front reaching a range of about 111 km with a gustiness percentage rate at least 70% at the five of station's location. text |
