Description
Summary:Traffic safety is an important aspect in assessing road network performance. The number of accident occurs at intersections is usually high compared to other locations due to the complexity of the location and various movements at intersection area that potentially lead to a fatal accident and injury to the drivers. Safety Performance Function (SPF) can be used as one of the available tools to find the location of hazardous intersections. The SPF is developed by relating accident frequencies with exposure and geometric/environment variables. In this research the SPF is developed using Poisson regression, Negative Binomial, Poisson Generalized, Zero inflated Poisson, and Zero inflated Negative Binomial models, and the more fitted regression model among the four was selected. The developed SPF shows a positive association between the frequency of accidents with total entrance vehicle and the width of the minor approach intersection, and has a negative association with the function of the road at the intersection. Afterwards, hazardous intersections were analyzed by ranking the study intersections based on several criteria, which are accident frequency, accident rate, critical accident rate, LOSS (Level of Service of Safety), excess predicted accident frequency using SPF, expected accident frequency with Empirical Bayes adjustment, and excess expected accident frequency with Empirical Bayes adjustment. The result indicates that Pasirkaliki - Pasteur intersection is the more hazardous intersection, among others.
